Sing the Echoes in "Welcome to Music"

Do vocal warmups with spooky sounds

Copy LinkThis is a movement song and an opportunity to experience 6/8. Teach the song by rote or by immersion.
Play the "Halloween Looby Loo" game

Parachute-free alternative: Instead of moving with the parachute on the part with the "oo", pretend you're stirring up a brew. You can also sing the song and simply form a circle by joining hands.
Play the "Fossils" game
Copy LinkEach time they hear the fossils theme (xylophone), have the sutdents pretend to be dinosaurs coming to life in a museum. Each time they hear the fossils theme, have students pretend to be dinosaurs. When the variations play, have the dinosaurs freeze in place so the security guard won't find out they are alive. The teacher (or a group of students) can pretend to be the guard, looking to find the source of the noise.
Optional: Have students identify the form with cards (found in the supplemental materials).

Copy LinkGame directions: Form a circle and choose one student to go into the middle of the circle. Have the students in the circle face away from the child in the middle. They pat the beat as they sing. At the end of the song, they clap the words "just like that." All the students in the circle jump around so they are facing the child in the middle. They make the scariest faces that they can. The student in the middle (or the teacher) chooses the scariest face to be the next child in the middle. You could have more than one student in the middle to speed up the game.
