Musicplay is a menu. The teacher is not expected to teach every song or activity. Choose the songs and activities from the list that will best fit your schedule and the needs of your students.
Tap the beats on the beat strip at the end of "Time for Music".
If your students can find a small toy, they could tap the toy on each beat.
When Artie Almeida has students use a toy or stuffed animal to keep the beat, she calls it a "beat buddy".
It's a fun manipulative for kids to use in keeping a beat.
Do some vocal exploration with shape cards.
Read the story to the children along with some kind of visual - a gorilla toy or puppet, or use the letter poster. Have the children identify the letter, then sing the Letter G song and sing and move to Grumpy Gorilla.
The story is available in the Grumpy Gorilla Worksheets in Supporting Resources.
Watch and move with the kids demo of "Grumpy Gorilla".
The actions are available in the Songs Activities PDF under the teacher tools (click the link "G - Grumpy Gorilla to get there).
Print or draw the letter G. If you have a printer, download and print the letter G worksheets. If not, practice printing G on paper, and draw 2 things that start with G.
Listen to the video, pausing after each excerpt. Ask the students if the excerpt used short sounds or long sounds.
Choose several unpitched instruments that can play long or short sounds.
A triangle or finger cymbals resonate so they play longer sounds.
Rhythm sticks play a short sound.
Hide the instrument so the children don't see it (maybe in the mystery box).
Play the instrument. Have the children tell you if the sound is long or short.
The actions are available in the Songs Activities PDF under the teacher tools (click the link "T - Turkey Tango" to get there).
Create movement for your students to copy.
Play with sticks, drums or any instrument you have available.
