If you've already done this, skip ahead.
Teach the song, "Concentration" as a reading or rote song.
If possible, have the students read the solfa notes or pitch letter names.
Teach the rhythm of the song by rote.
Game Directions: All begin by singing the first part of the song. After the line, “When you hear your name, the game begins!” the teacher sings their own name, followed by a student’s name. The student continues the game by singing their own name followed by a classmate’s name. The classmate sings their own name, followed by a different classmate’s name. If someone doesn't sing on the beat - if they miss the beat - stop, choose a new tempo and play again.

In the song, little Tommy is supposed to have sat on a "clinker' or a hot coal.
This is why in the movements, the kids stand when they sing, "sat"
Choose from the activities that will help your class learn, review or practice note values.
For example:
• Clap the rhythm (the words) of Little Tommy Tinker.
• Sort the rhythms of the song, "Little Tommy Tinker".
If you have bucket drums use them.
If you don't have bucket drums other options include:
- use rhythm sticks and play on the floor
- pat on your legs - be creative!
Compose your own rhythm pattern.
Play it back. Do you like it? If not, change it.
Create two different patterns, and play them with Everybody Say yes!
