  • review recorder melodies #1-7 on the virtual recorder/xylophone
  • learn recorder melodies #8-10 on the virtual recorder/xylophone
  • improvise and create your own variation on “Hot Cross Buns” on B, A, G

Alternate Activity:  If you have recorders at home, or are allowed to play recorders in-person, continue the Recorder unit.

Teaching Procedure

1 Find a Ball to Review Rhythms

Play the Ball bouncing rhythms with the video.

2 Review Recorder Songs 1-7 and Learn Songs 8-10

Play the recorder melody on the virtual xylophone.

In the upper left corner it says "Choose Song".

Select the songs to practice. You should review songs 1-7, and learn to play songs 8-10.

3 Improvise a New Variation for Hot Cross Buns

Hot Cross Buns starts: B A G.

One way to create a variation is to change the rhythm.

You might try playing two of each note: BB AA GG

You might try playing two of some of the notes: B AA G

Use the keyboard to try out some variations on Hot Cross Buns.

4 Create a New Variation for Hot Cross Buns

Use Level 5 to create a variation on Hot Cross Buns.

Hot Cross Buns starts: B A G.

You might try playing two of each note instead: BB AA GG

You might try playing two of some of the notes: B AA G

5 Write Out Your Variation on Hot Cross Buns

If you don't have a printer, write out your melody using letter names.

If you have a printer, print the composition worksheet, and use it to write out your variation.
