Listen to the song and the movements that the words suggest.

Give half the class sticks and half drums. (substitute as needed)

You could also have students click sticks when sticks are shown, then drum on the floor when the drum is shown.

Divide the class into 2 teams or play teacher vs students.

Sing or listen on the recording to one verse of "Five More Days Till Vacation." Sing again and have the students join in. You may wish to count how many actual days of school are left, and count down from that number. Sing this song each music class until the end of the school year.

Listen to one verse of the song. Teach that verse by rote. On the board, write the words carrots, dinner, spaghetti, __________, dinner. As you sing verses 2-7, point to the food that is eaten in that verse. Ask the class for suggestions of what to eat in verse 5.

Make up actions for the "Eat! Eat! Yum! Yum!" part of the song

Create this composition in call and response form. Have the students create their patterns and decide how to perform them with body percussion or instruments.

Using the worksheet, or if you want to save paper and ink, use any paper you have, create a new verse, and then draw a picture of what is happening in your verse!

Teach the song by rote. Since this is an echo song - sing a phrase and have the students echo. If you don’t feel comfortable singing for your students, play a phrase on the video and have your students echo.

Choose one student to be Charlie. Charlie is the leader of the singing. While singing,Charlie walks around the outside of the circle. The class echoes, singing the part in the brackets. At the end of the song, Charlie touches a students that they have gone past. The student that is touched leaves the circle and tries to tag (not tackle!) Charlie before Charlie gets to the hole in the circle.

An interesting variation of this game is to have the solo singer make up new verses of what Charlie caught. ex: Charlie caught a cold; Charlie caught the kitchen.
