Teaching Procedures
Sing the "Hello Song"
This is a shorter version of the "Hello Song" in English, French and Spanish, without names.
Review "Sleepy Bunnies"
Optional: Play the Trivia Wheel game “Loud or Quiet”
Have fun with this new game.
Divide the class into 2 teams or play teacher vs. students.
Teach “The Mill”
Teach the song, showing with arm motions how the melody goes up and down. If you have a stretchy band, you could have the entire class show how the notes go higher and lower together. You could create a game of it. Sing the song and show how the notes go higher and lower, then call out a color. The children holding on to that color run under and switch places. Repeat.
Learn the game and sing “The Mill”
Form a circle. The ‘miller’ stands inside the circle pretending to grind the grain. Students step the beat around the circle while they sing the song. A second student, the ‘mill owner’ walks outside the circle. At the end of the song, the miller runs out of the circle and is chased by the owner back to where the circle was broken. Choose a new ‘miller’ and ‘owner’ and continue the play until everyone has had a turn. If there are uneven numbers, the teacher can take a turn.

Listen and sing with the story “The Mill”
Listen to the story "The Mill" and sing the song when it occurs in the story.
Say and play an instrument with the poem:
Ticka tacka ticka tacka
Ticka tacka tick
Teach “What Shall We Do?”
Listen to the song video. Stop after each verse and ask students to tell you what the children in the song were doing outside. If you can go outside, have students move and act out what they are doing in the song. Can they create movement for new verses?
Optional: Illustrate a mini-book of the song lyrics
A reproducible mini-book is given in Supporting Resources. Students may enjoy illustrating the verses in the song.

Teach the song by rote, showing with arm motions how the notes go higher and lower. Play the game.
Review the game “Naughty Kitty Cat”
The students stand in a circle with a “cat” on the inside and a “farmer” on the outside. At the word “scat,” everyone claps and the cat goes outside the circle to be chased by the farmer. The class claps and counts to ten, the time limit for the chase. Choose a new cat and farmer and continue the game.
