  • do a rhythm playalong with 8th and 16th notes
  • #62 “Scotland’s Burning” – read,  sing, move
  • #63 “Highland Pipes” – learn about bagpipes
  • #64 “Categories” – play the game, adapting for either virtual or in-person
  • Play recorder melodies on the virtual xylophone. Review 1-21 as needed.  Learn 22-23-24-25. 22 is a rondo.  Students should create an 8 measure melody using D GAB to use as B, C, D sections.
  • Listening Kit 4 #11 – “Rondeau” – move with hands/plates

Review as time permits:

  • Line dance to “Country Kiddie Boogie”
  • #60 “Grandpa’s Whiskers”

Teaching Procedure

1 Do a rhythm playalong with 8th/16th note rhythms

Choose how to play the rhythm.

You could use speech, body percussion or instruments.

10 Learn Recorder Melodies 22-25 on the virtual xylophone

In the upper left corner it says "Choose Song".

Select the songs to practice. (1-21)

Choose new songs to learn. (22-23-24-25)

22 is a rondo. Students should create an 8 measure melody using D GAB to use as B, C, and D sections.

If allowed to play the songs on the recorder, play on the recorder instead of the virtual xylophone.

11 Compose a BAG E melody using the Melody Composition Tool (or worksheet)

Use the notes BAG E (D) in the composition.

Instruct the students to end on E or on G.

An optional worksheet is given. The worksheet option may be preferable for in-person classes without devices. Teachers can demonstrate using the Melody Composition activity.

12 Move to show rondo form

This listening example is a Rondo by Mion.

Do the movements with hands, or with two paper plates.
