Teaching Procedure

1 Review the Dance "La Raspa"

In-Person: you can do this with partners, but space out as much as possible, and don't hold hands.

Zoom: Do the solo movements as shown. For the partner movements use a chair or a stuffed animal as your partner.

2 Review the Dance "Los Machetes"

For this dance you'll need a pair of sticks.

Virtual students: Find two wooden spoons or butter knives to use.

4 Learn the Song "Someone's Tapping"

Read the rhythm.

Try singing the song with the solfa notes drm s.

5 Watch the Kids Demo for the Game “Someone’s Tapping”

In this game there are two people guessing and two singers.

Adapt for In-Person if no singing: Play the video and the two singers will clap the rhythm of the words for the solo.

Adapt for Virtual: Play the game, asking soloists only to unmute.

6 Create a New Eight Beat Rhythm Pattern

Create a new eight beat rhythm pattern using the rhythms that work in the song "Someone’s Tapping."

Choose body percussion or Choose homemade instruments to play your rhythm pattern!

7 Play Along with "Calata"

If you have a hand drum, play along with a drum,
