Practice the song’s movements—clap, pat knees, stomp feet while seated, and tap heads—then sing along with the recording. Explain that it’s a cumulative song and finish with a faster tempo to introduce changing tempo. For an extension, invite students to suggest new seated movements, standing and sitting between each one.

For example, a woodblock and a triangle. When you play the woodblock, the students will walk. When you play the triangle, the students will tiptoe. Students will move to your instrument, making their feet show what the music tells them to do. If you play faster, they go faster. If you play slower, they go slower. If you stop, they freeze. (You could have them freeze and make a shape.)
Extension: Play rhythms in different meters (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, etc.).
Option: On the second slide of the activity below select the actions you want students to do with different sounds.

To keep the activity playful and engaging, try repeating the song using different voices (whisper, robot, animal sounds) while continuing to reinforce the alphabet.

The "turkey" struts around the outside of the circle while all the students sing the song. At the end of the song, the "turkey" tags a student, who chases and tries to tag the "turkey" before the "turkey" reaches the inside of the circle. Both the “turkey” and the “chaser” sit in the middle of the circle until all the students have had a turn.
