This is great book for every classroom, and it’s a great way to welcome students to the music room in your first class.
Lesson Option 1:
1. Sing the refrain every time (or every 2nd time) you read the words, “All are welcome here.”
2. Accompany the refrain with C-G bordun on barred instruments. This is a great opportunity to review how to hold the mallets and play!
3. For older students, teach the Orff arrangement to use as the refrain.
Lesson Option 2:
A second song with an Orff arrangement by Terri Sponsler is in supporting resources that is more challenging for older students.
Objectives
- I can sing alone and with others
- I can echo high/low, loud/quiet, slow/fast, solfa patterns
- I can accompany a song with instruments
Teaching Procedures
Learn the song, "Welcome Welcome"
Copy LinkTeach the song by rote.
If you have barred instruments, accompany the song with a C-G bordun.
This would be a good opportunity to teach students how to hold mallets and play barred instruments.
Sing (or say) the Welcome song, patting a steady beat as you speak. Say hello to a student, and have the class echo you, using the same kind of voice that you used. Use high and low voices, quiet and loud voices, fast and slow. Also use speaking, whispering, shouting or calling and singing voices. When singing hello use a variety of solfa patterns: so-mi, so-la-so-mi or mi-re-do.
