If your students can find a small toy, they could tap the toy on each beat.
When Artie Almeida has students use a toy or stuffed animal to keep the beat, she calls it a "beat buddy".
It's a fun manipulative for kids to use in keeping a beat.

Greg Gorilla lived in the forest with his family. Little Greg Gorilla liked to stay up late and watch his favorite TV shows. On the days that he woke up early, he was really grumpy and grouchy. If his mom asked him a question, he’d grunt instead of giving her a nice answer. If his sister told him about something, he’d just groan. His family gave him a new name on days when he hadn’t had enough sleep. They called him Grumpy Gorilla. Greg didn’t like his new name. He grunted and groaned when they called to him, “Hey Grumpy! Come for supper!”
That night, his mom turned the TV off at 8 o’clock. “If you don’t want to be Grumpy Gorilla again tomorrow, you have to go to bed and get a good night’s sleep.” The little gorilla didn’t want to be called Grumpy again, so he went to bed and had a long sleep. The next day, his family was very happy to have a polite little gorilla in the house. They were all happy that Greg Gorilla was back again.

George the Giraffe
George the Giraffe was the tallest animal in his class. The other animals in his class teased him because he was so much taller than they were.
“George is a giant! George is a giant!” they’d call to him at recess. This hurt George’s feelings and made him very sad.
One day, the hippo kicked the soccer ball so hard that it flew into a tree and landed in a bird’s nest. The hippo couldn’t climb the tree. The zebras and the elephants couldn’t climb the tree either. They didn’t know how to get their ball back. “Let’s ask George the Giraffe!” said the teacher. “George is so tall, he should be able to reach the ball.”
George the Giraffe had no problems reaching the ball and pushing it out of the nest. All of the animals were happy to have their soccer ball back. They didn’t laugh at George any more. They were happy that George the Giraffe was a giant so he could rescue the soccer ball when it landed in a tree.
Song: Gentle Giant
George the Giraffe is a giant,
Gentle, gentle giant.
Eating the leaves from the top of the trees,
George, the gentle giant.
