In this lesson, you will:
Musicplay is a menu. The teacher is not expected to teach every song or activity. Choose the songs and activities from the list that will best fit your schedule and the needs of your students.
Sing the echoes in “Welcome to Music”.
After you've done this song enough times that students know it well, invite them to be the leader.
Use a scarf and create movement to the song.

Don't peek until you've done the activity.
Learn about the half note.
Have the students step the beat while they sing. Have the students clap the sounds the words make (rhythm). Ask the students how many sounds are on each beat. The word "brown" is held for two beats. Show the students that you can hold a note for longer than one beat by using a tie or using a half note.

This time, you get to drag the notes to show how many sounds there are on a beat.
There's one tricky word: float. When we sing it, we sing two pitches.
So in my answer, I've called this two sounds on a beat.

Here are the answers to Is It One Sound or Two? activity with note values.
Tell the students that the movement, or section, is called "Autumn." Is there something in the music that reminds them of autumn? Listen and ask them. (The harpsichord part makes me think of falling leaves.)
Create mirror movement with a partner or use the scarf you using in the song "Falling Leaves" to show how the leaves are falling while you listen this piece.
Print or draw and color the instruments.

Label the trumpet, clarinet, violin and drum.
Listen to song "I am a Fine Musician".
If you have printed or drawn the instruments in the preceding activity, point to the instrument as you hear it in the song.
If not, pretend to play each of the instruments that you hear in the song.
Do you know which instrument family each instrument belongs to?

Learn the song "Pumpkin Fat".
If students are able, have them read the rhythms and the solfa/note names.
Watch students play the game.
