Teaching Procedures
Sing the "Hello Song"
Copy LinkThis is a shorter version of the "Hello Song" in English, French and Spanish, without names.
Review different instruments using the “Mystery Box”
Copy Linktriangle, sticks, finger cymbal, egg shakers, drum, frog guiro - Talk about timbre of instruments. Ask the students if the sound of the instrument is high or low
Sort the instruments in families
Copy LinkMove to the Instruments!
Copy LinkMove the way the video tells you to move.
Play it again. Do you remember all the ways to move to the instruments?
Play along with “Play the Instruments Quickly”
Copy LinkGive out instruments and play along.
If you have them, give one group woods, one group metals and one group drums.
If switching instruments is possible, try to give students turns to play all three kinds of instruments.
Play along with “Play and Stop”
Copy LinkIf you have them, give one group woods, one group metals and one group drums.
If switching instruments is possible, try to give students turns to play all three kinds of instruments.
Play along with “If You’re Happy”
Copy LinkIn this song, the woods, metals and drums play in turn.
Teach “She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain”
Copy LinkListen to the singer on the recording and just add actions the first time you sing this song. Try to remember all the actions as you go. As the song goes along the students will be able to join in the singing of all the words. Create piggyback words to the song to celebrate Kindergarten graduation.
Learn the actions for “She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain”
Copy LinkDo the actions and sing “She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain”
Copy LinkOptional: Teach the Kindergarten Graduation lyrics
Copy LinkMany of the accompaniment tracks in Musicplay for Kindergarten can be used for accompanying piggyback songs. Use the accompaniment for "She'll be Comin'" as a Kindergarten Graduation piggyback song.
Teach “Let Your Light Shine”
Copy LinkThe song was included to reaffirm that each student in your class is special in some way. (You knew that already - didn’t you!) This would be a good song to use in a Kindergarten graduation or for a parent or grandparent day. Give each child a tealight and create movement with the lights. Another way you could enhance the song would be to create a slideshow of your students and project it as your students sing. If the song isn’t long enough to include all students, sing it twice.
Optional: Read “Whoever You Are” by Mem Fox
Copy LinkReview “The Mill”
Copy LinkReview the song, showing with arm motions how the melody goes up and down. If you have a stretchy band, you could have the entire class show how the notes go higher and lower together. You could create a game of it. Sing the song and show how the notes go higher and lower, then call out a color. The children holding on to that color run under and switch places. Repeat.
Play the game and sing “The Mill”
Copy LinkForm a circle. The ‘miller’ stands inside the circle pretending to grind the grain. Students step the beat around the circle while they sing the song. A second student, the ‘mill owner’ walks outside the circle. At the end of the song, the miller runs out of the circle and is chased by the owner back to where the circle was broken. Choose a new ‘miller’ and ‘owner’ and continue the play until everyone has had a turn. If there are uneven numbers, the teacher can take a turn.
Teacher note: We don't have a kids demo for "The Mill". If your students would like to see themselves on MusicplayOnline please review the submission requirements here: https://help.musicplay.ca/can-i-submit-a-kids-demo
