What is the song describing?
Ask the students if they know what a compost is. Ask them if they know what kinds of matter can be composted. Read them the words to the song. What kinds of matter go into the compost in the song? (apple cores, potato peels, banana skins, grass clippings from your lawn)

The song “Compost” is built over an ostinato.
An ostinato is a repeated pattern.
The ostinato is given at the beginning and the end of the song.
Cooking, heating, rotting, soil it becomes.
Play the song again, and sing the ostinato at the beginning and the end of the song.
